As for the Shatford:

"During the review of building options conducted last May and June, we indicated it was not financially feasible for the school district to save both the Ellis and Shatford buildings. In response to this, the City of Penticton council has indicated they are prepared to accept responsibility for the building and to develop it for city use. Arrangements for this option remain to be finalized."Michael Brydonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03800031931896866924noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8368567095674594545.post-79211214152271032322007-03-08T13:15:00.000-08:002007-03-08T13:15:00.000-08:00Hi Folks. I visited Penticton a while ago and was struck by the incredible architecture of the old school. I left your town with a sense of weloming from the wonderful people in Penticton and the courtesy shown to us as well as the friendliness. Natives seem proud of their town, so it never occurred to me that you would be so quick to not appreciate your history.
My great grandfather and his brothers along with Mr. Ellis were pivotal in the development of Penticton and until his death maintained a home there. The orchards surrounding you were part of a vision he and his siblings fought to initiate (getting the railway into you was part of that) the start of the development of the interior.
I would like to think that before the wrecker has his day, that you would consider keeping the facade of the old building and work with your past to install your future.
I realize the old school is hard to heat and is showing age in her old bones, but I see no reason to destroy it completly.
It is hardly an eyesore on the town and I think your school board lacks vision for not working with planners to keep the best of the structure and incorporate it into the new.
I hope you are guided by your sense of history and good judgement.
I will keep my fingers crossed!!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06810614188893697195noreply@blogger.com
